Upper Huffman Hill Climb Thursday & more races on tap

Upper Huffman Hill Climb

Thursday, July 10, 7:00pm

Upper Huffman Hill Climb is a tough but fun 8-mile race with 1,500 feet of elevation gain from Potter Marsh to the Upper Huffman trailhead. If your fans want to follow you and park at the trailhead, they’ll need $5 or an annual state park pass.

This is race #5 of 7 in the Hill Climb Series. Even if you have not raced any of the hill climbs in the series, you are still eligible for the series prizes as long as you race in 3 of the series races.

Upper Huffman Hill Climb Course:  Mass start by division on Old Seward Highway at Potter Valley Parking Area. Head north on Old Seward to Rabbit Creek, east on Rabbit Creek to Hillside to Upper Huffman.  At the T just up the road on Upper Huffman instead of going right up to Glen Alps the course will go left onto Sultana Dr to the Upper Huffman trailhead.  The race will end in the large pull out just before the gate to the parking lot.

Hatcher Pass Hill Climb – TO THE TOP!

Hatcher Pass Hill Climb is set for tomorrow (Saturday) – TO THE TOP! This is an absolutely beautiful course with a little climbing and a really sweet downhill! Remember this is part of the Hill Climb Series as well, so don’t cheat yourself by not doing this once a summer event. SIGN UP NOW!!! HELP – THIS IS A REALLY STRANGE REQUEST. All port-a-potties in the valley are currently being used (lots of pondering folks I guess) for other events. We are obligated to the Parks Service to have one in the staging area, or NO RACE! We can get one locally but they do not have enough trucks to deliver it for us. SO……..LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH A TRUCK that can pick it up (either today or tomorrow morning) and bring it to the start/finish. You would not need to take it back – they are able to pick it up after the race for us. They are really light weight and will put it in your truck and strap it in for you. We can easily get it out when you get to the staging area. IF YOU CAN HELP US, please email bike907@gmail.com or call Missy at 907-230-2913 immediately. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (we don’t want to disappoint the 30 currently registered and the 30+ we hope will still sign up today (you are signing up right now right?). FREE RACE OF CHOICE if you can deliver! Online registration will be open until 9 p.m. tonight. Onsite registration will be available from 8:30 – 9:30 tomorrow (Saturday) morning. Race Start: 10:00am Staging Area – The race start and staging area is located at the Little Susitna River Bridge, about 1 mile up Hatcher Pass Road (on the Palmer side of Hatcher Pass Road). There is a turn out just past the bridge. If parking is full and you park along the side of the road PLEASE park as far off the road as possible. There are several turn outs past the staging area as well where you can also park and ride back to the start area. Hatcher Pass State Park is an Alaska State Parks fee area with a charge of $5 per day for parking. The race finish will be at Independence Mine State Historic Park. Register online at http://www.abcroadracing.com Hope to see you tomorrow! PLEASE CALL ME IF YOU HAVE A TRUCK AND CAN HELP WITH THE PORT-A-POTTIE. PS – NEW BIBS – yep, we have new bibs! In fact, we have really cool NEW bibs (see website for pic). Register today for Hatcher Pass and be one of the first to get your new bib (and number of choice……within category numbering system).
